Five Chinese workers wounded in Tarbela clash
GHAZI: Five workers of a Chinese company sustained injuries when two of their groups clashed in Tarbela here Wednesday, official sources said.
They said the workers of the Synohydro Corporation, a Chinese hydropower engineering and construction company which is developing the Tarbela 4th Extension project to extend the generation life of the reservoir, clashed with each other late Wednesday night.
The official sources said the incident occurred in the residential area for the employees in Ghazi.They said two workers sustained serious injuries in the fight and were taken for treatment to a private hospital in Islamabad.
They said three other workers of the firm sustained minor injuries.Director Security Tarbela Dam, Colonel (R) Wali Ayaz Khan Khattak said the workers of the company clashed in the residential area where the employees and their families were staying.
He informed that the Synohydro Corporation has its own security system. He added it had hired private guards for the security of its workers and their families.Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shah Mumtaz said the police cannot lodge the first information report of the incident.
He said the persons involved in the incident were foreign citizens and the police cannot take any action against them on its own.He said the police would seek permission from the Interior Ministry to file a case of the incident.
