Majority of Pakistanis support joint family system: Gallup survey
Analysis of results revealed joint family system is supported by 69% of men and 54% of women
ISLAMABAD: The majority of Pakistanis prefer to live in a joint family system after marriage.
This is the result of a Gallup Pakistan survey in which more than 700 people participated from across the country.
Would you prefer living in a joint family system after marriage? Answering Gallup Pakistan’s question, 62 percent of Pakistanis supported living in a joint family, and called it better. Thirty-six percent preferred living separately, not in a nuclear family. Two percent did not answer this question.
The analysis of the results revealed joint family system is supported by 69pc of men and 54pc of women. In contrast, 45 percent of women and 29 percent of men supported living separately. The survey noted 4pc more people like joint family system in cities than in villages. 64 percent in cities and 60pc in rural areas preferred to live in a joint family after marriage. Gallup Pakistan also asked the survey participants whether they are currently living in a joint family. 70 percent answered yes, while 30 percent said they are living separately.
