Power supply resumes at railway stations after KE, PR resolve dues issue
In retaliation, the railway authorities cut off power cables installed over their land
KARACHI: The K Electric has suspended power supply to Karachi Cantt and City railway stations over failure of Pakistan Railways to pay Rs20 million in outstanding payments. In retaliation, the railway authorities cut off power cables installed over their land.
The snapping of power suspended critical operations at both the Karachi Cantt and City railway stations as well as at the Locoshed, Washing Line and the reservation counters resulting in losses of millions of rupees and posing problems for passengers. The power suspension also played havoc with the train schedule already under pressure due to inclement weather countrywide.
The K Electric suspended the power supply to Karachi Cantt and City railway stations at 2pm Wednesday which hampered the train operations, their maintenance and reservations. Intending passengers had to return from the reservation counters at both the Karachi Cantt and City railway stations.
However, the situation normalised after Thursday 5pm following negotiations between the senior officials of Pakistan Railways and K Electric.
