Lifter Jamil tests positive for banned drug
ISLAMABAD: National weightlifter Jamil Akhtar has been tested positive for using performance-enhancing drugs and on top of that consuming cover up supplements. Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) under the WADA guidelines conducted tests on 12 athletes in July and out of which Jamil was tested positive.
“Prohibited substances have been found in Jamil Akhtar’s sample. The athlete is free to confirm whether he would like the B Sample testing. To opt for B sample, the athlete must complete all the formalities by no later than 21 August 21,” the test report says. Pursuant to the ADR, Anti-Doping Organization of Pakistan (ADOP), is responsible for conducting the anti-doping disciplinary proceedings associated with this matter. Prohibited substance or its metabolites or markers in an athlete’s sample is an anti-doping rule violation.
On 27th July 2024, an ADOP Doping Control Officer (DCO) collected a urine sample, assisted by the relevant officials. ‘The News’ has learnt that Methasterone metabolite is detected in Jamil’s sample.
