44,000 crime cases reported from Karachi in first seven months of 2024: CPLC report
Over 44,000 criminal incidents were reported during the first seven months of 2024 in Karachi.
According to a report by the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), more than 31,000 incidents of motorcycle theft and snatchings were reported, along with over 1,000 cases of car theft and snatching.
The report also states that over 11,000 mobile phones were snatched from citizens during the period. Additionally, 12 cases of kidnapping for ransom and 57 incidents of extortion were reported in the city during these seven months.
Meanwhile, the Karachi police have released a performance report for the past week. According to the report issued by the office of the Karachi additional IG, a total of 31 encounters took place between the police and criminals last week. During these encounters, three robbers were killed and 34 others injured, leading to the on-the-spot arrest of 50 suspects.
In total, the police arrested more than 732 suspects over the past week. The report also mentioned that significant amounts of drugs were seized from those involved in drug trafficking, including 107.83 kilogrammes of hashish, 1.16 grammes of ice (crystal meth). Additionally, 108 different types of illegal weapons were recovered from the arrested suspects. Over the week, a total of 29 motorcycles were also taken into custody.
