Showroom inaugurated at Haripur jail
PESHAWAR: A Jail Industrial Showroom was inaugurated in the Central Prison Haripur on Friday where handicrafts and other goods made by prisoners will be displayed.
Superintendent of the Central Prison Haripur, Umair Khan, said the project had been completed in the light of the directions of the Inspector General of Prions Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Usman Mahsud.
“This showroom will be used for showcasing products made by prisoners. The showroom will be open for the public to visit and buy any item,” said the officials.He hoped the facility would boost the sale of products made by the prisoners and as per government policy, 30 percent of the profit share would be given to the inmates working in the prison industries.
Presently the showroom has different furniture items, handicrafts, footwear, rugs and sports goods all prepared by the prisoners.The variety of the products will be increased with time and the showroom is expected to increase the business of the Haripur jail industries.Umair Khan thanked the staff who made this project possible, particularly the factory manager, with hard work.
