Journalists protest bid to stop Omar Ayub from addressing meeting
Journalist community started protest at Chanda Qila Chowk and blocked main GT road
GUJRANWALA: Journalists community staged a protest demonstration against police for stopping Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub to participate in a meeting of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) here on Friday.
It was reported that the PFUJ meeting was about to start at a local hotel and the arrival of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Omar Ayub was expected when the police arrived at the venue to stop Omar Ayub from attending. They also seized the hotel manager.
It was told that in the first session of PFUJ meeting, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) leader and former minister Khurram Dastgir Khan in his speech severely criticised the PTI and also called social media as a temptation.
On Friday, the leader of the opposition was expected to address the journalists but heavy contingent of police force was deployed outside the hotel to stop him from participation.
The journalist community started protest at Chanda Qila Chowk and blocked the main GT road.
