IGP asks FIA to take action against fake websites, social media accounts of Sindh police
The Sindh police have uncovered 97 fake police pages, accounts and IDs on various social media platforms.
The Sindh inspector general of police (IGP) Sindh has decided to take action against those responsible for carrying out such fraudulent activities in the name of the Sindh police, including five fake websites and 21 fake WhatsApp groups.
Additionally, there are 37 fake accounts on Facebook, seven on Twitter, 14 on TikTok, and 13 on Instagram. The IGP has written a letter to the director general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) requesting immediate action against these fake accounts. Another letter has been sent to the FIA Karachi South director.
In the letters, IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon emphasised that unidentified individuals were behind these fake pages and IDs that created a misleading impression of the police department and could cause confusion among the public.
The operators of these accounts had no official affiliation with the Sindh police and did not serve as spokespersons or authorised representatives, read the letters.
IGP Memon urged the FIA to have such unauthorised pages, IDs, and accounts associated with the Sindh police promptly deleted from Facebook, TikTok, and other platforms. The IGP also requested the FIA to provide details of its action against the fake accounts to the Sindh police so that the police could pursue legal action against the perpetrators.
