MIRANSHAH: Pashtun Tahafuz Movement leader and known poet Gilaman Wazir, who breathed his last at a hospital in Islamabad on Thursday, was laid to rest amid sobs in his native graveyard at Asadkhel area in Razmak sub-division in North Waziristan.
A large number of locals, villagers, Pashtun Tahafuz Movement leader Manzoor Pashteen, former MNA Ali Wazir and other members of the rights movement as well as people from all walks of life attended his funeral prayer. MNA from North Waziristan Mufti Misbahuddin, Awami National Party provincial President Mian Iftikhar Hussain, firebrand cleric Mufti Munir Shakir, Maulana Jehanzeb from Bajaur and other political and religious figures attended the funeral.
The body was brought to North Waziristan from Islamabad through Peshawar, Kohat, Karak and Bannu, where thousands of people showed up along the main road to pay their respects to the slain poet by showering the coffin with rose petals. A good number of PTM activists accompanied the body while it was transported from Islamabad to his native North Waziristan. Gilaman Wazir was a poet, who was associated with the PTM, known for his poetry highlighting the plight of the Pakhtuns.
Gilaman Wazir was injured when a group of people thrashed him in Islamabad a few days back. He succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Islamabad on Thursday.
