Intercity solar electric public service vehicles launched in Mirpur

MIRPUR: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Wednesday achieved a major breakthrough in furnishing local population with latest means of public transportation after District Administration of Mirpur-AJK launched intercity solar electric pollution-free inexpensive intercity public service vehicles services here on Wednesday.

Mirpur Deputy Commissioner Yasir Riaz and the city Mayor Usman Ali Khalid inaugurated launching of the pilot project of the solar energy based public service cart initially to be available from Kalayal Chowk to Thothal, a thickly populated locality of Mirpur city.

“This is the pilot project of inter-city solar electric cart service for the local population in Mirpur city”, said DC Yasir Riaz while talking to reporters on this occasion. He added that the service would, later on, be extended to rest residential parts of this city of over a million of Kashmiri expatriates settled abroad, mostly in United Kingdom.

The DC said that the objective of the launching of the service to ensure provision of the inexpensive public service travelling, with the coordination of the private sector at the intercity routes to the common man as this service would be available for only Rs30/ per passenger per stop on the determined route from stops of Kalayal - Naangi Chowk - Shaheed Chowk and Thothal and back on the same section.

Besides the city elite representing all segments of civil society, senior officials of the district administration including SSP Mirpur Kamran Ali, DIO Javed Malik, Tehsildar Imran Yousaf Chaudhry, President DBA Shakeel-uz-Zaman Advocate, President of his own faction of Markazi Anjuman e Tajram Sohail Shujah Mujahid and others were also present at the colourful inaugural ceremony hosted at central Shaheed Chowk.
