Cheques distributed among bereaved families of Preetabad

HYDERABAD: Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Chairman and Federal Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, MQM-P leader Farooq Sattar and others on Saturday participated in an event organised by the JDC in Hyderabad to provide financial assistance to those who were injured or whose family members died in the tragic cylinder explosion incident in Preetabad.

The JDC and businessman Ali Shekhani distributed checques amounting to Rs2 million to victims of the cylinder blast. MQM-P MNAs and MPAs, Hyderabad commissioner and deputy commissioner also attended the ceremony.

"We offer our heartfelt condolences to those whose loved ones have lost their lives. There is unemployment and inflation, and the government is not able to control it. Such incidents are not being stopped, and precious lives are being lost,” said Sattar as he addressed the event.

Siddiqui also addressed the ceremony. He said he had come to Hyderabad to offer condolences over a tragic incident. He added that the urban areas of Sindh provided 97 per cent of the provincial budget, and they had proved resilient in the wake of all the obstacles and conspiracies against them.

The Muttahida chief said the Muhajir community had built Pakistan and would continue building it. He said he felt sorry for Hyderabad as its history was replete with tragic incidents. One class gave 97 per cent of the Sindh budget and the other class spent that amount, he maintained, adding that the province could not run in such a manner.

Tessori said Siddiqui had asked the prime minister to meet the bereaved families of Preetabad. Commending Sheikhani for providing assistance to bereaved families, the governor said the businessman was doing what the government was supposed to do.

He lamented that three children of the same house were killed in the incident. “I have never seen such an incident in my life,” he remarked.

The governor said gas was supplied through cylinders all over the world but it was done under standard operating procedures (SOPs). He added that Pakistan was going through an economic and social crisis, and there was a storm of inflation and unemployment.
