ISLAMABAD: The electric buses being imported from China will start plying initially on two routes in the federal capital from next month.
Out of 160 electric air-conditioned buses, 30 buses had reached Karachi so far, which would soon be dispatched to Islamabad.
The second shipment of 70 buses had been dispatched from China, while the last consignment would also reach Islamabad in July.
Initially, 13 buses would be operated on two routes from PIMS to G-10, G-9 and G-8 and from PIMS via Embassy Road to G-7, G-6, Melody, Aabpara and Nadra Chowk. The significance of the project is that elderly people and students would be charged on subsidised rates.
With the arrival all buses, the number of routes would increase to 13. The intelligence transport system would, however, be made operational in the month of July.
According to officials, the charging stations for buses have been established at Jinnah Convention Centre, while bus depots are under construction at Taramari Chowk and Zero Point.
