Low on gas

Pakistan meets its energy demand through a combination of imported and indigenous resources. In recent years, the demand for gas has increased rapidly in Pakistan. However, gas exploration and production have declined and the LNG operational and regulatory framework is weak, leading to a nationwide shortage and increased supply costs. This leads to gas shortages, particularly during the winter season when demand for heating increases. The demand often exceeds the supply, resulting in gas loadshedding, where gas supply is suspended for hours in different areas. In many rural areas, access to natural gas is limited or non-existent.

This lack of infrastructure makes it difficult for rural communities to benefit from the advantages of natural gas, such as cooking and heating. The aging infrastructure of gas pipelines and distribution networks also pose challenges in ensuring consistent and reliable gas supply. Efforts are being made by the government and gas companies to address these issues. Steps such as infrastructure development, awareness campaigns, and stricter regulations are being implemented to improve the availability, safety, and reliability of gas in Pakistan.
