ISLAMABAD: General Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Friday promised all out support to hockey, announcing free medical cover for the top fifty national players, and half a million rupees cash incentive for each member of the team that excelled at the recently held Azlan Shah Hockey in Malaysia.
The COAS received the Pakistan Hockey team at the General Headquarters, Rawalpindi to congratulate them on the brilliant display.
Rana Mujahid, Secretary Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), thanked the COAS for the free medical facilities in the army hospitals for the top fifty national players besides promising to revive the Inter-Club Hockey Championship that was financially supported by the army during General Qamar Javed Bajwa as the COAS.
“We are highly obliged to the COAS Gen Asim Munir for showing extraordinary support for the game of hockey. The chief has promised all possible steps to help revive the game. Inter-Club Hockey is a big initiative which the COAS has promised to revive. The army chief has also promised to revive COAS Hockey Championship that used to be one of the best tournaments in the country and has unearthed many talented players in the past,” Rana Mujahid, said.
The COAS has directed the PHF officials to suggest measures which could help develop the game and could stage the renaissance of hockey.
“I have been asked to submit all the relevant suggestions ensuring rapid improvement in the game at domestic and international level.”
The meeting was also attended by President Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Tariq Hussain Bugti and other PHF officials. During the interaction, the COAS commended the team for their outstanding performance, stating, “The hockey team has brought immense pride to the nation, and we are committed to providing them with comprehensive support to ensure their continued success.” He extended his best wishes to the players for their future endeavors.
