ISLAMABAD: The United States has articulated its eagerness to expand cooperation in the information technology sector with Pakistan. The offer was made by the US Ambassador Donald Blome during a meeting with State Minister Information Technology and Telecommunications Shaza Fatima Khawaja here Wednesday.
While recognising Pakistan’s significant potential for growth in the digital economy, the US ambassador highlighted the pivotal role of US firms in fostering investment and innovation within the sector. They also discussed enhancing cooperation in the IT and telecommunication sectors. According to the ministry, the two sides explored issues of mutual interest in IT and telecommunication, including the digitalisation of Pakistan’s judicial system and promotion of the gaming industry.
During discussions with the US ambassador, Shaza Fatima conveyed Pakistan’s commitment to the progress of the IT and telecom sectors. She also underscored Pakistan’s desire to strengthen ties with the US in this realm and expressed a keen interest in collaborating on advancing the gaming industry.
Minister Shaza Fatima highlighted the government’s focus on digitalisation initiatives across various sectors of the economy, governance, and society.
Ambassador Donald Blome appreciated the briefing about the working of IT&T ministry. It was attended by Additional Secretary MoITT, Ms. Aisha Humera Moriani, Member IT Syed Junaid Imam and Member Telecom Muhammad Jahanzeb Rahim.
