Pakistan crush South Korea 4-0
KARACHI: Pakistan hockey team’s successful journey continued in Sultan Azlan Shah Cup as the Green-shirts crushed South Korea by 4-0 in Ipoh, Malaysia, on Sunday.
Forward Hanan Shahid opened the account in just three minutes. He took the ball from the half line, dodged three defenders and the goalkeeper and scored the first goal by a powerful hit. Pakistan doubled the lead when Arshad Liaquat hit a field goal in the 20th minute.
Pakistani forwards played outstandingly and smashed the defense line of Korean players who had no answer to the fast pace of Greenshirts and persistent show of the skills, passing and dodging.
Ghazanfar Ali further extended the lead, scoring the third goal in the 27th minute. Pakistan’s defenders and the goalkeeper also played well and did not allow Korean forwards to take any advantage.
At the end of the third quarter, Pakistan had a commanding 3-0 lead. In the last and forth quarter, PC specialist Sufyan Khan, who scored a hattrick in the pervious match against Malaysia, scored Pakistan’s fourth goal on a penalty corner in the 50th minute.
Pakistan defeated Malaysia by 5-4 on Saturday in their first match with a last-minute winning goal by Abu Mahmood. Pakistan’s next match is against Japan on May 7 at the same venue.
