16 more die in rain-related incidents in KP

PESHAWAR: At least 16 people, including children and women, were killed and scores sustained injuries in fresh rain-related incidents in various parts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, officials said on Saturday.

They said that over 50 people have been killed in the recent rain-related incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa so far.

A woman was killed and her two children injured when the roof of her house collapsed in Bara tehsil of Khyber district. The family members of one Muhammad Nawaz were asleep at night when the incident happened in the Akhakhel area of Bara, they said, adding local people and Rescue 1122 officials reached the spot and took the injured to a hospital where their condition was stated to be stable. Meanwhile, several houses were damaged by the heavy rains in Bara.

In Upper Dir, two children were killed and a woman fell unconscious in Karpat Nehag Dara in Upper Dir district. Ten people, including women and children, were on their way from Krapat Nahag Darra to Swat via the mountainous route to attend a wedding when due to extreme cold, two children died and a woman fell unconscious, the local police said.

The deceased children were identified as Javeria, daughter of Muhammad Rasool, and Arzo, daughter of Khayasta Rahman. The wife of Muhammad Rasool was taken to a hospital in Wari.

Two girls were killed and eight others injured in rain-related incidents in parts of the Mohmand tribal district. It was learnt that several houses were also damaged by the recent heavy rains in the district.

A girl was killed and another injured when the house of Mashooq collapsed in Pandyali tehsil. Another girl was killed and two were injured in a roof collapse incident in Safi tehsil. In Qandaro tehsil, two girls and a woman sustained injuries when the roof of their house collapsed. The injured were taken to a local hospital. The rains also damaged standing crops in the district.

In Bajaur, six people were killed and several others injured in rain-related incidents. Dozens of houses were also damaged due to landsliding caused by the downpour.

Two men were also killed in rain-related incidents in Loy Sam and Mulla Syed village in Bajaur. The son of one Aqeel was killed and his three other family members sustained injuries in a roof collapse incident in Utmankhel tehsil. The injured were taken to a local hospital. The rains also caused the closure of roads and triggered landslides in various parts of the Bajaur tribal district. In Mardan, three people, including two children, were killed and two others sustained injuries in separate roof collapse incidents. It was learnt that the family of one Jamshed was sleeping in a room when its roof caved in. As a result, his wife and two children identified as Okash, 7, and Mansoor Umar, 2, died. The man was injured. Also a woman was injured in a roof collapse in Takht Bhai tehsil in Mardan.

A man and his son were killed while his wife was injured in a roof collapse incident in Malakand district. It was learnt that the man identified as Meraj, 50, and his son Taimur, 15, were killed when the roof of their house collapsed. Meraj’s wife sustained injuries in the incident. Rescue 1122 officials rushed to the spot and pulled out the dead and the injured from the debris. In another incident, a young man was electrocuted in Sakhakot area in Malakand. The rainwater inundated houses in Alla Dhand, Batkhela and Thana town.
