Scattered rain likely
LAHORE: Partly cloudy and humid weather was observed in the City here Thursday while Met office predicted similar weather conditions with chances of scattered rain during the next 24 hours.
Met officials warned that heavy rainfall may generate flash flooding in local drains/streams of Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and Tributaries of Kabul River today (Friday) while there was a possibility of landslides in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan and may affect the vulnerable locations during the period. Windstorm/hailstorm and lightning may damage standing crops, loose structures like electric poles, vehicles and solar panels etc.
Met officials said a trough of strong westerly wave was affecting most parts of the country and will extend to upper parts today (Friday). They predicted that rain-windstorm/thunderstorm with few heavy fall/hailstorm was expected in most places of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Punjab and Islamabad.
Rainfall was recorded at Gwadar, Ormara, Pasni, Jiwani, Panjgur, Quetta, Kalat, Turbat, Khuzdar, Nokkundi, Zhob, Dalbandin, Lasbella and Larkana. Thursday’s maximum temperature was recorded at Mithi where mercury reached 42°C, while in Lahore, it was 34°C and minimum was 22.4°C.
PDMA predicts thunderstorm
Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) officials has said that there are chances of thunderstorm and hailstorm at few places in Punjab from today (Friday) till April 21.
PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia has issued instructions to the Deputy Commissioners across the province and said that the relevant departments should be on alert to deal with the emergency situation. The district emergency operation centres of all the districts, including the provincial control room have also been alerted.
