Action taken against sellers of untaxed cigarettes, sugar and fertiliser
Hyderabad: Officials of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) have taken action against sellers of untaxed cigarettes, sugar and fertilisers in various districts of the Hyderabad division.
FBR teams checked cartons and sacks in several towns, including Thatta, Badin, Tando Allahyar, Kotri, Tando Adam, Umerkot, Dadu and Sehwan.
A total of 26,232 packets of cigarettes were checked in Hyderabad region on Sunday, of which 7,947 cartons were found untaxed. Likewise, 1,940 sacks of fertilisers and 1,603 sacks of sugar were checked, of which 355 sacks of fertiliser were found to be unverified.
Chief Commissioner Inland Revenue Hyderabad Farooq Azam Memon told The News that various teams from all the offices of the region checked sales tax and FED stamps by conducting operations in shops and warehouses.
