Two NGOs not providing healthy environment to children: CPWB chief
LAHORE: Kahna Police have arrested the head of unregistered NGO Orphanage/Gharana Yateem Khana Nageena Qamar after the complaint of Child Protection Welfare Bureau (CPWB) over having 32 destitute children in illegal custody.
CPWB Chairperson Sarah Ahmed confirmed that the head of orphanage was arrested because she had 32 destitute children in a miserable condition in two small rooms. Moreover, having no licence from CPWB was another reason for operation conducted against the NGO.
CPWB chairperson said that more than 50 NGOs across Punjab are operating for the welfare of children. She revealed that only two NGOs were working without license and were not providing a healthy environment to the children. CPWB took notice against one NGO while we are ready to take action against another NGO working in the provincial capital.
She informed that the Child Protection Bureau successfully recovered 32 children, including 14 boys and 18 girls aged between 3 and 14 years from the illegal custody of the unregistered NGO. She shared that medical tests of the recovered children were conducted which revealed that they were not abused sexually. These children were also not involved in beggary. They will be given education and every facility at CPWB and all resources will be utilised for tracing their parents, she added. SHO Kahna on the issue said that an FIR No. 3,048/14 was registered against the accused persons under sections A-20 and 34 of the Punjab Destitute and Neglected Children Act on the complaint of Asad Ullah Khan of CPWB. He added the team of CPWB had approached him for police assistance against the illegal NGO being operated at Millat Town, Gajjumatta, Kasur Road.
CPWB officer Rabia Abdullah headed her team which include Rizwan Haider, Ehtasham Arshad and Asad Ullah Khan. Investigation Wing of Kahna Police has started investigations into the matter and would interrogate the accused person keeping in view all aspects including its funding.
