PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority (KPFS&HFA)
conducted raids on various fast-food outlets, bakeries, and juice shops in Peshawar, Mardan, and Kohat and sealed several premises over reported food adulteration.
Under the supervision of Director General Wasif Saeed, the crackdown resulted in the discovery of substandard and hazardous items, including ketchup with non-food grade colour, and contaminated minced meat.
Erring businesses faced significant fines and were promptly sealed for non-compliance with hygiene and food safety standards.
In University Town Peshawar, Seven Eleven fast-food unit and a Mantho shop were sealed for poor cleanliness standards and the presence of substandard ketchup and rotten minced meat, respectively. Some branded bakeries were also shut down due to unhygienic conditions.
A separate operation in Pakha Ghulam area uncovered a unit producing counterfeit dairy products, resulting in the seizure and disposal of over 1,000 kilograms of harmful dairy items.
In Mardan, inspections among dairy vendors led to the disposal of approximately 500 liters of adulterated milk, with heavy fines imposed on the owners.
Director General Wasif Saeed reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to combating food
adulteration and emphasised on a zero-tolerance policy. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious food businesses promptly.
