702 arrested in crackdown on profiteers

LAHORE: Lahore police arrested 702 accused involved in profiteering and 266 were booked last month in a crackdown across the City.

According to Lahore Police spokesman, 127 profiteers were arrested in the City Division, 159 in the Cantonment Division, 94 in the Civil Lines Division, 76 in Sadr Division, 66 Iqbal Town Division and 180 in Model Town Division. Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana said an indiscriminate crackdown on profiteers and hoarders was underway.

PSCA starts training of 100 more candidates

Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has initiated the training of 100 more selected candidates while recruitment process of new police communication officers was underway.

Some 308 candidates were shortlisted after tests and interviews and 253 of them were selected on open merit, 53 on women quota, and 2 on minorities’ quota. New police communication officers were trained at the Operations and Monitoring Centre, and Electronic Data Analysis Centre.

The new officers are also being trained at the Media Management Centre, Emergency 15 Call Centre, and E-Challan System. The PSCA spokesperson said phase-wise training will be imparted to selected candidates.

Rs1.1m released for cops' treatment

The Welfare Management Committee held its meeting at Central Police Office and released RS 1,100,000 more for medical treatment.

Rohail Rafiq, son of Khanewal Constable Muhammad Rafiq (late), was given Rs362,000 for kidney transplant, former sub-inspector Muhammad Sharif of Toba Tek Singh Rs250,000 for the treatment of his wife's liver tumor, special Branch Constable Imtiaz Ahmad Rs250,000 for the treatment of his wife, driver constable Mehmood Rizwan Rs150,000 for the treatment of fractured leg, Rawalpindi constable Muhammad Saleem Rs100,000 for medical treatment. The IGP has instructed continuing measures for the welfare of cops and their families.

512 arrested under Anti-Kite Flying Act

Hundreds of cases have been registered under the Anti-Kite Flying Act across the province. According to police spokesman, 512 suspects involved in kite flying were arrested during the last 24 hours and 535 cases were registered.

The police have seized 59,877 kites and 700 string rolls from the accused. The spokesman said 2,991 people were arrested and 2,855 were booked in the ongoing crackdown and 105,076 kites and 2,791 string rolls were recovered from accused.

Meanwhile, the IGP directed the CCPO Lahore, the RPOs, the DPOs to adopt zero tolerance against kite flying and take strict action against sellers and manufacturers of kites and metallic strings.
