LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a significant step ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 by dissolving the national selection committee and announcing a new seven-member committee.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi made the announcement during a press conference in Lahore on Sunday, stating that the decision was made to ensure transparency and meritocracy in player selection.

Unlike the previous selection committee, the new committee will not have a designated chairman. Instead, all seven members will have equal powers and decisions will be made through majority voting. The committee comprises former cricketers Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq and Asad Shafiq, along with the head coach, captain, and data analyst of the team.

Naqvi emphasised that the new committee will be responsible for every decision on team selection, with the aim of achieving positive results for Pakistan cricket. He further stated that the selection of the head coach and coaching panel will be made public in the coming week, while the decision regarding Shaheen Afridi’s continuation as T20I captain will be taken after the national camp in Kakul on April 8.

Additionally, Naqvi addressed other key issues during the press conference, including the restoration of Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf’s central contract and implementation of a uniform NOC policy for players.
