Pak shotgun shooters continue to flop at international level
KARACHI: The performance of Pakistan’s shotgun shooters has been quite disappointing at international level for a long time. They have failed to win any medal although they have played a big number of international events.
According to details, Army’s young shooter Imam Haroon made a new national record and won gold medal in skeet event at recently concluded national shooting championship. But he got 114th position in the qualification round of skeet event at a World championship held in Baku in 2023.
Usman Chand from Army, who has been national champion in skeet event for past many years, won silver medal in the recent national championship. At international level he is ranked 111th. He has been participating in international events since 2013. So far he has participated in one Continental Qualification Competition, three Asian Games, four Asian Championships, eight World Cups, and four World Championships. He has reached finals only once. Sindh’s seasoned skeet shooter Khurrum Inam claimed bronze medal in the national championship. Khurrum, ranked 136th, has been participating in international events since 1994. So far, he has played four Asian Games, 14 Asian Championships (with two finals), 17 World Cups, six World Championships, and three Olympics.
Army’s Farrukh Nadeem claimed gold medal in trap event in the recent national championship. Farrukh, ranked 77th, plays trap and double trap events and he has been participating in international events since 2017. So far, he has played five world championships, five world cups, two Asian championships, and two Asian Games in which he could not secure positions inside top 100. Aamir Iqbal from Army took gold medal in double trap event and silver medal in trap event at the recent national championship.
