RAWALPINDI: Colin Munro, the limping hero of United, claimed that it was nothing less than fighting fire with fire as hitting up record winning total against Multan Sultans was never an easy job.
Munro who was struggling with a hamstring injury limped his way to 84, raising a match-winning 141 runs for the third wicket with United’s captain Shadab Khan.
“It was nothing less than playing fire with fire. Multan set up a huge target for us to chase and the only way to chase it was to go all out. That was exactly what we did. Despite being handicapped because of injury I tried my best to take the team closer to win.”
Munro praised Shadab, Faheem, and Imad for helping the team reach the target. “It was never easier but due to some exciting batting by these three we succeeded in hitting the target.”
He especially praised Faheem and Imad for finishing the game. “We had some problems in finishing the game but today in one of the most important games of the season for us, Imad and Faheem ensured we reached the target in style. Imad’s penultimate six under pressure was a decisive strike.”
On his injury and prospects of playing in the playoffs, Munro said if he would be eighty percent fit, he would be there in the playing lineup. “All depends on how my injury responds. If I fail to recover, we have enough bench strength to look into.”
Shadab termed Imad’s innings as a special knock. “I always favour impact players as they are the ones who can perform under pressure. What Imad and even Faheem have shown was something special. They are impact players and know how to perform under pressure.”
Shadab added that he was sure of chasing down the target. “I know Rawalpindi pitch well. A couple of good innings and you are there. That was exactly what happened. Once we got separated and Munro left too, Faheem and Imad kept us in the game.”
He hoped to see Munro back in action with the start of playoffs. “Munro is an important component. We would take all possible steps to ensure he is fit for the playoffs.”
