The Ichra Bazaar incident in Lahore, where a female police officer rescued a woman wearing a dress with Arabic script printed on it from an angry mob, made me realize just how badly more education is needed in this country. Ignorance almost led to the death of an innocent citizen.
A vacuum in responsible and sensible leadership creates room for such brazen and misguided vigilantism to occur. Efforts to prevent such incidents from occurring in future should focus on promoting literacy and education for all and countering misinformation.
