After this death, the number of citizens killed during mugging attempts in Karachi in the ongoing year has reached 27.

The tragic incident had occurred on Friday night when unidentified robbers opened fire on two brothers on the Banaras flyover within the limits of the Pirabad police station. Both the brothers were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where one of them identified, 28-year-old Abdul Moiz, son of Abdul Sami, died the same night.

His younger brother, 18-year-old Abdul Hannan, succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Saturday.

Police said the deceased brothers were residents of the Khairabad area of Manghopir and worked at a tailor's shop. The elder brother had married three months ago.

Police said the brothers were passing through the Banaras flyover on a motorcycle on Friday night when armed culprits intercepted them, robbed them at gunpoint, and shot them for offering resistance. The culprits managed to flee after the incident.

The family claimed that the younger brother died due to negligence on part of the hospital administration during treatment.

Emotional scenes were witnessed during the last rites of the brothers. The funeral prayers were offered in Al Fatah Nagar after which the brothers were laid to rest in a local graveyard amidst tears and sobs.

Police said they had begun searching for the suspects by obtaining footage from closed-circuit cameras.
