PPP to force next PM to release Rs125bn for K-IV project: Wahab

Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Friday laid the foundation stone of a sewerage rehabilitation project from Teen Hatti to the Dak Khana area of Liaquatabad.

Speaking at the ceremony, he said there were sewerage problems in Liaquatabad which were going to be solved. “We will complete all such projects,” he said. He asserted that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) would fulfil all promises made to the people in its manifesto. The PPP would work for the welfare of people wherever they lived, he added.

The mayor remarked that new thinking would take Karachi forward. He added that the PPP leaders and workers would live up to the expectations of the people of Sindh. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Wahab said, would make sure that the future Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif fulfilled his promise of giving Rs125 billion for the K-IV project in Karachi. “Irrespective of who won and who did not win the elections, we are working in every town and every district of Karachi under the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari,” he said.

Karachi Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, mayor’s representative for political affairs Karamullah Waqasi, Deputy Parliamentary Leader of PPP in Karachi Metropolican Corporation City Council Dil Muhammad and other elected public representatives were also present at the ceremony.

Wahab said work had been initiated on the sewerage project in District Central at a cost of around Rs370 million. He explained that under the project, pipelines of 36- and 42-inch diameter were being laid from Teen Hatti to Dak Khana.

He said that on the completion of the project, all the sewage from the area, which was earlier taken via Altaf Ali Barelvi Road to the Treatment Plant-I, would now directly reach the Treatment Plant S-III through the Lyari River. The project, which would be completed in one year, would also address the issue of sewage overflow in the area, he added.

Wahab said the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan won in the area in the general elections and the Jamaat-e-Islami was elected from here in the local government elections. “We are working in Liaquatabad without discrimination,” he said. The PPP, he remarked, believed in the politics of service without discrimination.
