Tribesmen protest manhandling of woman in Bara

BARA: The Afridi tribesmen here on Wednesday blocked the Pak-Afghan highway to traffic in protest against the alleged torture on an elderly woman during a raid.

The activists of the political parties and local elders staged a sit-in and protest at the Khyber Chowk at Bara Bazaar against the incident. The protesters alleged that the copssubjected the woman to torture while resisting the arrest of her son wanted by the police.

The speakers said the tribal people were facing step-motherly treatment.Later, the people ended the protest after holding talks with the local administration.MPA-elect Abdul Ghani Afridi said that the police accepted the four demands of the protesters. He added the cops apologized to the woman and would present her son in the court

He said that the police had agreed that the cops would not raid a house without being accompanied by a lady constable and an FIR would be registered against the officials who tortured the woman.

Ghani Afridi said that the cops visited the house of the woman and apologized to her. He said that as per the local customs, the cops gave two sheep to the family.Tehsil Chairman Mufti Kafeel, former MPA Shafiq Afridi, Pakistan Awami Inqilabi League President Attaullah Afridi, Abdul Raziq, Maroof Khan Afridi, Khan Wali Afridi, DSP Bara Circle Swalzar Khan, SHO Bara Hardam Gul and SHO Landikotal Malik Akbar Afridi were present in the jirga.
