Parliament House cafeteria under renovation before inaugural NA session
The National Assembly Secretariat decided to own the project after Finance Division’s refusal to provide the funds
ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is carrying out beautification and renovation of parliament cafeteria to welcome the newly-elected members of the National Assembly.
The National Assembly Secretariat, in a letter addressed to the CDA on February 15, had directed to complete cafeteria renovation work by February 26, three days before the expected inaugural session of lower house of parliament.
Initially, the civic body had worked out an estimate of Rs80 million and demanded the Finance Division to provide the funds from the supplementary grant.
The National Assembly Secretariat decided to own the project after Finance Division’s refusal to provide the funds.
Now the estimated cost of work has been reduced from Rs80 million to Rs30 million after dropping procurement of new electric appliances, crockery for kitchen and new furniture.
The contractor was asked to start work without following procedure for award of contract due to shortage of time. At present, the contractor is carrying out flooring and false ceiling inside the hall of the cafeteria while plantation in lawn is also in progress.
