MARI strikes gas in Kohlu
OGDC, state-owned oil and gas firm, holds remaining 5 percent stake in the block as a joint venture partner
KARACHI: Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MARI) said on Friday that it had discovered gas at an exploration well in Balochistan province.
The company said in a filing to the Pakistan Stock Exchange that it had successfully drilled the Maiwand X-I ST-l well in Block 28, located in Kohlu district, to a depth of 2,516 metres. The well tested gas flows from four different formations, with the highest rate of 4.14 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) from the Dughan and Rani Kot zones.
MARI, which operates the block with a 95 percent working interest, said the discovery was of "great significance" as it would help reduce the gas supply deficit in the country. Oil and Gas Development Company, the state-owned oil and gas firm, holds the remaining 5 percent stake in the block as a joint venture partner.
