ISLAMABAD: The General Manager of Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company briefed a parliamentary panel on Thursday regarding the substantial challenges hindering the nation's gem and jewellery exports.

Highlighting the absence of expedited legislation as a major obstacle, the GM emphasized the industry's struggle to compete.

In comparison to India's robust $40 billion and Thailand's impressive $8 billion exports, Pakistan's meager export figure stands at $6 million, underscoring a significant disparity in market share and competitiveness. The Senate Standing Committee on Industries and Production, chaired by Senator Khalida Ateeb, convened here on Thursday.
