Robber killed while attempting to rob cop near Native Jetty Bridge

A suspected robber was killed after he attempted to rob a police constable in the Native-Jetty Bridge area on Monday.

The incident took place when four suspects on two motorcycles intercepted the police constable, Zeeshan, and tried to snatch cash, mobile phone and other valuables from him, upon which the police constable offered resistance and opened fire on them.

As a result of his firing, one of the robbers was killed while three of his companions managed to escape. The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital, Karachi, where he was identified as Ilyas. A pistol was recovered from the possession of the deceased suspect. According to documents found in the robber's pocket, he had been released from jail just 10 days ago. A case has been registered and investigations are under way.

Separately, two suspected robbers were killed and a police constable wounded during an exchange of fire between police and robbers in the Landhi area. The bodies of the deceased robbers and the injured cop, Noman, were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

The deceased suspects are yet to be identified. Police claimed to have seized weapons and seven stolen mobile phones from their possession. Police said the encounter took place when the suspects were robbing citizens. Further investigations are under way.
