CM opens first govt cancer hospital

LAHORE : Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday inaugurated Mayo Cancer Care Hospital at Manawan. Mohsin Naqvi while announcing free treatment facility in the cancer hospital revealed that every patient would be given free treatment in the first government cancer hospital.

The hospital comprised of 100 beds and will be increased up to 1,000 beds in coming 10 years, he said and reviewed facilities being provided to the patients. He visited the room for collecting blood samples and also planted a sapling in the lawn of the hospital.

All the administrative and financial affairs of the cancer hospital have been handed over entirely to the King Edward Medical University. It is the foremost responsibility of the government to provide a state-of-the-art hospital for the cancer patients.

The CM while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Mayo Cancer Care Hospital apprised that the first complete cancer care hospital of Punjab has been established.

No patient suffering from any cancer ailment will be denied treatment facilities even the patient suffering from the last cancer stage will also be provided treatment facilities in the hospital.

The government has established a cancer hospital and now it is the responsibility of the doctors and the staff to provide complete care to patients. Provincial Ministers Dr Javed Akram, Dr Jamal Nasir, Secretaries of SHC&ME, C&W, Commissioner Lahore, Special Secretary SHC&ME, KEMU VC and officials concerned were also present on the occasion.

Lays foundation stone of police GOR

The chief minister laid the foundation stone of police GOR project at Elite Police Training School, Bedian Road late at night and initiated construction work by operating a crane.

While addressing the ceremony, the CM noted that 313 houses would be constructed for the police officials. While terming the police as the vanguard to fight crimes, he asserted that solution of problems relating to the police department was the priority of the government. The police GOR project will solve the residential problems of the police officials, he said and maintained that every possible work was done for the welfare of the police department during the last one year.

The police families who have been allocated houses in this scheme should take ownership of the project to ensure the construction standards along with the completion of the project within six to eight months, he added. The government was trying to early complete and hand over the residential apartments being constructed at Qurban Lines. Meanwhile, lands have been allotted to the police stations across the province as many police stations were found working in rented buildings and tents, he mentioned No police officer was transferred without any valid reason during the tenure of the incumbent caretaker government, the CM said.

Inaugurates dual road from Lahore to Kasur

A 33-km long dual road from Lahore up to Kasur has been completed in a record timeframe in which Rs250 million were saved. Mohsin Naqvi inaugurated the construction and restoration project of the Gajjumatta-Kasur road on Wednesday.

Inspects development schemes

The chief minister inspected the 8km long controlled access corridor Bund Road and Babu Sabu toll plaza projects late at night. The CM directed to accelerate the pace of work on package 2 and the toll plaza and directed to complete the finishing work relating to under-construction bridges while using every possible resource. Additionally, he directed the initiation of a grand operation against encroachments on adjoining roads and added that work should be continued at night on the toll plazas.
