ISLAMABAD: Former Senate Chairman Senator Mian Raza Rabbani accused the caretaker government of acting far beyond its mandate under the Election Act, 2017, and the Constitution, 1973 and raised the question on the composition of Council of Common Interest (CCI), saying that it was not envisaged in the caretaker government.

“The composition of the CCI is not envisaged in a caretaker government, therefore, the meeting held and the decision to open up the gas sector to the private sector, is not within the law and such a far reaching decision should have been left to the new elected government,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Rabbani also raised the question on the decision of the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting, in which it was decided not to fund the development projects of the provinces and said the decision was also beyond the limit of a caretaker government.

He said the caretaker’s must realise their mandate under the law and also that they have less than ten days in government.
