NEW DELHI: Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik’s separation rumours were confirmed this month when the former Pakistan cricket captain announced his marriage to actress Sana Javed. The couple’s divorce drama included deleting references to each other from their social media bios and public profiles. Their Wiki profiles do not mention each other as spouses, Indian media reported.

Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik’s separation rumours were doing the rounds long before the couple confirmed their split this month with the former Pakistan cricket captain announcing his marriage to actress Sana Javed.

Although shocked at first, the announcement did not come as a surprise to many fans who were keeping up with the couple’s divorce drama.

Months before calling it quits, the stars sent the media into a frenzy when they deleted references to each other from their social media bios. As if that weren’t enough to send ripples, fans noted that the two even wiped off any mention of the other from their public profiles. Unlike other celebrities who have parted ways over the years, Sania and Shoaib’s Wiki profile descriptions do not mention each other under the ‘spouse’ category.

While Sania’s bio mentions her parents, siblings, and professional sports achievements, it does not have any mention of ‘spouse’. However, there are references to her marriage with the cricketer in a longer description on the page.

For Shoaib, on the other hand, Sania’s name does not feature under ‘spouse’, even though it mentions his first wife Ayesha Siddiqui who he was married to between 2002 and 2010. It also mentions Sana Javed.

According to reports, one of Sania’s family members confirmed that the former Indian tennis player was the one who initiated the divorce process by exercising “khula,” the right of a Muslim woman to divorce her husband. Despite the many rumours about the cause of the split, both Sania and Shoaib maintained stoic silence and also put up a united front for the sake of their son.
