‘Crime Stoppers’ service inaugurated

LAHORE : Inspector General Police Punjab Dr Usman Anwar formally inaugurated the Safe City "Crime Stoppers" service on Saturday.

Through the Crime Stoppers service, citizens will be able to give secret information to prevent crimes and unlawful activity occurring around them. IG Punjab said that citizens can report or contact at Safe City Crime Stoppers in two ways, citizens can call directly at Crime Stoppers on 033SAFECITY i.e. 03372332489, secret information can also be shared on Safe City website www.psca.gop.pk along with photo or video evidence.

Safe City Crime Stoppers is anonymous and confidentiality is guaranteed, citizens can report about drug dealers, terrorists, and brothels, can be reported to "Crime Stoppers". Crime Stoppers can be used to report robberies, proclaimed offenders and fugitives and anti social elements involved in fake and sub standard productions etc.

Similarly, confidential information can be given about sexual crimes, gambling dens, human trafficking, illegal weapons and theft of electricity, gas and water etc. The identity of those contacting the Safe City Crime Stopper Service is not disclosed under any circumstances.

IG Punjab said that Crime Stopper Service was introduced to promote community policing. Citizens should report to the police in a timely manner with a sense of security. Before taking action, the police will ensure the verification of the information through appropriate means, and after verification of the information, the criminals will be brought to justice.

Meanwhile, IG Dr Usman Anwar visited Sheikhupura to attend marriage ceremony of the daughter of the Sub-Inspector. He met with the family members of the martyr sub inspector, presented flowers, gifts and greetings to them. RPO Sheikhupura Babar Sarfraz Alpa, DIG Welfare Ghazi Mu Salah ud din and DPO Sheikhupura Zahid Nawaz Marwat were also accompanied by IG Punjab.

All the officers offered gifts and greetings to the bride and groom. Sub-Inspector Rana M Yousaf was martyred in Lahore in a bomb blast in 2015. Martyr's family includes his wife, six daughters and one son. IG Punjab sent off the daughter with prayers and good wishes as a father.

132 wardens promoted

Punjab police has promoted 132 wardens of Lahore Traffic Police to the post of Senior Traffic Warden.

The ceremony of pinning rank to the promoted traffic officers was held at the Central Police Office. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar attended the ceremony in traffic warden uniform. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar along with senior officers pinned the ranks to traffic police officers of new posts.

Speaking at the function, IG Punjab said that a total of 959 traffic police officers were promoted on merit in the last one year, these senior traffic wardens will be promoted to 75 seats of DSP and 10 seats of SP in future. IG Punjab said that a promotion board will be held soon for promotion to the seats of DSPs in traffic police, there will be maximum opportunities for better performers based on their performance, seniority and merit.

IG Punjab said that the traffic police has issued driving licenses to 1.3 crore citizens in a short period of time. Dr Usman Anwar said that traffic police is the most important force, the representative the Punjab Police on the roads. Addressing the promoted officers, IG Punjab said that all officers including Wardens, Senior Traffic Wardens and DSPs should perform their duties more diligently, safety of citizens should be ensured on the roads through effective traffic management , compliance of laws and awareness campaigns.

Additional IG Punjab Sultan Ahmad Ch, Additional IG Traffic Mirza Faran Baig, DIG Establishment-1 Zeeshan Haider, SSP Traffic Ghazanfar Ali Shah, CTO Lahore Amara Athar and other officers were present in the ceremony.

Elite Training School lodges inaugurated

Newly constructed solitaire lodges in Elite Training School has been inaugurated by IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar during his visit to the Elite Police Training School Bedian Road.

The two-storied attractive building has modern facilities including living room, dining room, drawing room, washrooms, kitchen, caretaker room, reception room for the guests.

IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar said that police officers and delegations coming from other cities to perform official affairs will be able to stay in Solitaire Lodges.

Similarly, foreign experts coming for the training of Punjab police and elite force officers will also be accommodated in the same lodges.

He further said that with the support of the Punjab government, the dream of Punjab Police's wonderful infrastructure and development has converted into reality.

He added that Punjab Police's special initiative police stations, service centers, driving training and licensing centers are no less than any other country in the world.

IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar inspected various parts of Solitaire Lodges and appreciated the quality of facilities. He appreciated SSP Nida Omar Chattha, concerned officers for successfully completing the Solitaire Lodges project in record time.

Additional IG Special Branch Zulfiqar Hameed, Additional IG Punjab Sultan Ahmad Ch, Additional IG Welfare and Finance Riaz Nazir Gara, CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana, Additional IG Elite Force Waqar Abbasi, Additional IGs, DIGs and Senior police officers attended the event.

Road accidents

At least three people died, whereas 1,096 were injured in 1,037 road accidents in all 37 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Out of these, 467 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 629 victims with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by Rescue medical teams.

The majority (73%) involved motorbikes.

Furthermore, the analysis showed those 580 drivers, 40 underage drivers, 149 pedestrians, and 370 passengers were among the victims of road traffic crashes.

The statistics showed that 231 road accidents were reported in Lahore which affected 244 persons placing the Provincial Capital at top of the list followed by 74 in Faisalabad with 80 victims and at third Gujranwala with 60 road accidents and 63 victims.

The details further revealed that 1099 victims were affected by road traffic crashes including 908 males & 191 females, while the age group of the victims shows that 189 were under 18 years of age, 574 were between 18 and 40 years and rest of the 336 victims were reported above 40 years of age.

According to the data 892 motorbikes, 62 auto-rickshaws, 124 motorcars, 25 vans, 9 passenger buses, 22 trucks and 88 other types of auto vehicles and slow-moving carts were involved in aforesaid road traffic accidents.
