PR police registered 3,401 cases in 2023
LAHORE : Pakistan Railways (PR) police registered 3,401 cases and arrested 3,913 accused in 2023.
The PR police detained 1,047 accused and booked 800 individuals for their involvement in the theft of PR material worth over Rs40.77 million that was recovered from them.
The police booked 927 accused on charges of encroaching the PR land and made 973 arrests in this regard. Some 161.226 acres of railway land worth Rs6824.353 million was retrieved from encroachers in a joint operation.
The police registered 200 cases against drug peddlers and smugglers and made 202 arrests and recovered 118 kg drugs and 923-bottle liquor from them.
The police booked 74 illegal hawkers on trains and platforms and imposed Rs21,000 fine on them.
The police detained some 120 judicial and police fugitives in 2023 and booked 97 who attempted to smuggle and transport illegal arms through trains and made 97 arrests in this regard.
In 2023, PR registered 571 cases in Peshawar Division, 526 in Rawalpindi Division, 1,009 in Lahore Division, 171 Mughalpura (Workshops), 466 in Multan Division, 165 in Sukkur Division, 445 in Karachi Division, and 48 in Quetta Division.
The PR help centres handed over 87 missing boys and 92 girls to relevant authorities and 310 runaway boys, 190 girls and 47 women were handed over to legal heirs and welfare institutions.
The PR police handed over 2,087 passenger bags and luggage worth Rs20.1 million to genuine owners and provided first aid facilities to 15,061 passengers.
The PR police also took several disciplinary measures to prevent crime on trains and railway stations in 2023.
