40 lawyers booked over various criminal charges

LAHORE:Islampura police registered a case against 16 nominated and 40 unidentified lawyers on various criminal charges, including Anti-Terrorism Act.

The case was registered on the complaint of SHO Islampura police station. The lawyers had resorted to jubilation firing on victory in Lahore Bar elections and damaged government property two days ago.

According to the text of the FIR, 300 lawyers gathered on the Aiwan-e-Adal Road after the election results were announced. They started chanting slogans and firing in the air. They attacked a DSP identified as Sarwar with the intention of killing him, tore his uniform and tortured him besides abducting a Constable Shahid at gunpoint.

They also damaged window panes of government properties and an official vehicle by firing.

Four die in road accidents

The Emergency Services Department (ESD) responded to 938 road traffic accidents in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

In these accidents, four people died, whereas 959 were injured. Out of these, 387 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 572 victims with minor injuries were treated on the spot by Rescue medical teams.

Man hit to death

A 35-year-old man died in a traffic accident on Multan Road, Sundar, on Sunday. The victim, yet to be identified, was crossing the road when he was hit by a speeding truck, resulting in his instant death.

Two found dead

Two persons were found dead in different parts of the City on Sunday. A 40-year-old man was found unconscious near Data Darbar. He was admitted to hospital where he died. Meanwhile, a 45-year-old man was found dead near Ali Park, Tibbi City. Police claimed that both the men, yet to be identified, were addicts and died of excessive use of drugs.
