SHC approached for recovery of missing engineering student
The high court was requested to direct the police and law enforcement agencies to order production of the detainee and provide details of cases against him
A petition has been filed in the Sindh High Court (SHC) against alleged enforced disappearance of a missing engineering student.
The petitioner, Dr Bashir Memon, submitted in the petition that his son Ali Hasan Memon was an engineering university student and used to make videos of railway engine for his study and research projects.
He submitted that he was taken into custody by the Railways police on June 18 last year from Sukkur and ensured that he would be released after brief investigation. He submitted that his son was not released despite assurance of the police and his whereabouts were unknown since then.
The high court was requested to direct the police and law enforcement agencies to order production of the detainee and provide details of cases against him, if any.
Missing lawyer returns
The SHC was informed that a missing lawyer, who was allegedly picked up by law enforcement agencies, had returned home.
The lawyer, Johar Abid, informed the court that he had been picked up by personnel of law enforcement agencies and was released after some days. The petitioner’s counsel, Amir Nawaz, had said the detained man was also a candidate in the forthcoming elections and stopping him from contesting the polls was illegal. He withdrew the petition after the lawyer came back.
