Jirga wants Kurram disputes resolved through talks

PARACHINAR: The participants of a jirga here on Thursday stressed the need for resolving all the local disputes through talks to ensure a durable peace in the region.

They were speaking at the jirga convened at the Governor’s Cottage and addressed by senior civil and military officials along with local elders. Those present at the occasion were Kohat Commissioner Abid Wazir, Kurram Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mahsud, Major-General Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti, Brigadier Shehzad Azeem, and others.

Among the elders were Allama Syed Tajamal Hussain, Zamin Ali, Sajid Turi, Inayat Hussain. Major-General Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti called for resolving regional disputes through mutual consultations. He said special instructions had been issued to the deputy commissioner and the revenue authority towards this end as that was needed for peace in the Kurram district.

The military official later met the tribal elders in Sadda and Parachinar. He asked the officials that the elders from both the sects should be taken to Kohat and their suggestions noted down.

Major-General Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti directed that the meetings of the elders should be arranged with the officials of the Land Commission as well.A tribal elder, Inayat Turi said that precious lives were being lost in the Kurram district due to the land dispute. He said the government should give rights to the real owners of the lands and action should be taken against the miscreants.

A former federal minister, Sajid Turi, demanded action against those responsible for spreading terror and called for an end to the misuse of the social media which fanned the tension.
