A new dawn?
The apex court made a landmark decision this past Monday (January 8), annulling MPs’ disqualification under Article 62 (1) (f) with a 6-1 majority verdict. The latest verdict has paved the way for Nawaz Sharif and Jehangir Tareen to contest the upcoming general elections slated for February 8. Even former PTI chairman and PM Imran Khan might end up benefiting from this ruling, if he is convicted in one or more of the many cases he is facing. Overall, this verdict appears to be a good omen for the politicians of the country.
The thought-provoking remarks made by the CJP regarding articles 62 and 63 of the constitution also hold immense significance. This verdict represents, in my opinion, the dawn of a new hope for political stability in Pakistan, which is certainly a panacea for all the ills and loopholes in our governance system.
