JI leader opposes delay in elections
BATKHELA: Jamaat-e-Islami leader senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan on Monday said that the caretaker government, Election Commission and the Supreme Court should ensure the holding of general elections slated for February 8.
“Postponing general elections would fulfil the nefarious designs of terrorists, which is not acceptable to the people of Pakistan,” he said while addressing a JI workers’ convention here.He said that the recent Senate resolution for delaying elections had no legal and constitutional status, which would be resisted tooth and nail.
The JI leader said that his party was taking part in the elections to serve the country and nation in a true sense. He also criticised the caretakers for increasing the electricity and gas tariffs to fleece the poor, saying the rulers were leading a luxurious life while the poor were yearning for a square meal.Candidate for NA-9 Maulana Jamaluddin and PK-23 candidate Shahab Hussain also addressed the convention.
