MIRANSHAH: A retired schoolteacher was shot dead by unidentified masked gunmen in Haiderkhel village in Mir Ali tehsil in North Waziristan tribal, police officials said on Saturday.
They said that unknown masked gunmen opened fire on a former schoolteacher named Yousaf soon after he came out of his home at night.
They added that the body of the slain teacher was later shifted to the hospital in Mir Ali for medico legal formalities.
The assailants, the police said, fled the scene after committing the crime.
No militant group or individual has claimed responsibility for the killing of the retired schoolteacher.
Meanwhile, North Waziristan Deputy Commissioner Manzoor Afridi has clamped Section 144 for a week ahead of an anti-polio drive to be kicked off in the district tomorrow (Monday).
According to notification, aerial firing, display of arms, pillion riding and vehicles with tinted windows would be banned.
The Dc said that Section 144 was imposed to ensure a peaceful environment to the anti-polio teams and citizens and fail the nefarious designs of violence mongers and militants.
