The body of a five-year-old boy, who had gone missing last month, was found in a closed sewerage drain in the Korangi area on Friday. The family suspects that after the child was abducted, he was murdered and his body was dumped into the drain.
The body was discovered from a drain in the Mehran Town area of Korangi Industrial Area. Upon receiving the information, police and rescue workers reached the site, retrieved the body and transported it to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where the deceased boy was identified as five-year-old Ali Muhammad, son of Saeed Ahmed.
According to the victim’s elder brother, Zahoor Ahmed, the boy went missing on December 15. The brother stated that Ali had gone to his grandmother's house situated nearby and he went missing while he was returning home.
Despite search, Ali could not be found and a report for his disappearance was filed with the police station. The family said that eight days later, a case of Ali’s abduction was registered. They also alleged that the Korangi Industrial Area police did not play any role in the search for the boy, and the family members themselves continued to search him.
“Today, when the lid of a sewerage drain in the next street was removed, the body of the child was found,” the elder brother explained. “It is suspected that after Ali was abducted, he was murdered, and his body was thrown into the sewerage drain.”
The deceased child was the youngest among six brothers. The family lamented that the police did not take the case seriously saying that if the police had conducted a serious investigation, the child might have been recovered alive. Meanwhile, police said they were investigating the case from different angles.
