SWABI: The Bacha Khan Medical Complex (BKMC-MTI), Swabi, has reported treating 542,637 patients in 2023.
Also, it said the BKMC has become the first hospital in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to offer services to patients with infectious diseases.
In the annual data, the hospital revealed that it treated a total of 542,637 patients throughout the year. Among them, 331,312 patients were facilitated in the outpatient department (OPD), and 211,325 patients received emergency care. The hospital conducted 660,505 different types of tests, performed 12,142 dialysis procedures, and carried out 6,908 surgeries of various kinds.
Raham Yousafzai, a spokesperson for the health facility, highlighted that significant initiatives were undertaken in 2023 to enhance treatment facilities. The hospital established the Programmatic Management of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis TB (PMDT) and an HIV/AIDS center, offering both diagnosis and free treatment to patients.
He said that BMKC has become the first hospital in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, both in public and private sectors, where the hospital has started an Outpatient Department (OPD) for patients suffering from infectious diseases.
Dr Amjad Mahbood, the hospital director and specialist in infectious diseases, played a crucial role during the corona pandemic and received the Sitara-e-Imtiaz presidential award for outstanding performance.
Newly established surgical, isolation, and ICU wards are now operational, with fully functional emergency services catering to both surgical and medical emergencies. New operation theatres and a surgical ICU are expected to be functional soon, according to the focal person.
Raham Yousafzai said the hospital introduced Patient Registration Cards and ICU Attendant Cards to improve the efficiency and convenience of patient services.
It also continued vaccination efforts, administering a total of 1,670 vaccinations. The Institutional-Based Private Practice (IBPP) persisted throughout the year, and over 19,000 patients received treatment.
