27 senators’ asset details not filed with ECP

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Monday issued a statement, containing the names of 28 senators who had failed to submit the statements of assets and liabilities of their own and of their spouse (s) and dependent children by December 31, 2023.

The senators have been asked to do the needful by January 15failing which their membership will be suspended until the legal requirement was fulfilled under Section 137 (3) of the Elections Act, 2017.

The Commission also said the case of ex-members of the Senate, the National Assembly and four provincial assemblies, whose statements of assets and liabilities were not received by January 15, would be paced before the commission for an appropriate action.

The senators, who could not file their related documents, include ex-PM Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, ex-chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani, Aon Abbas, Musadik Masood Malik, Nuzhat Sadiq, Taj Haider, Attaur Rehman, Syed Faisal Sabzwari, Sania Nishtar and Gurdeep Singh.

The electoral body has also issued a cause list regarding the alleged contempt of the Election Commission and chief election commissioner case, involving the PTI founder Imran Khan and ex-minister Fawad Chaudhry, for January 03. The case is fixed for framing charges and personal appearance in Adiala Jail.
