Rescue-1122 rescued over 2.1m in 2023
LAHORE : Secretary Emergency Services Dr Rizwan Naseer Monday said Rescue-1122 rescued more than 2,144,578 people responding to 1,855,574 emergency calls during year 2023 across the province.
The data showed 20.8 percent increase in the number of emergencies as compared to previous year 2022. Dr Rizwan Naseer stated this presiding over an annual performance-2023 review meeting held at Emergency Services Headquarters. The meeting was attended by all heads of wings of Emergency Services Headquarters & Academy. The secretary was briefed on all rescue operations and others miscellaneous emergencies.
He was told that 420,387 road accidents took place across the province in 2023, whereas in 2022 some 369,564 road crashes were reported with an increase of 13.8 percent. He was apprised that 20,665 fire incidents were reported in 2023 and 26,477 in 2022 with the decrease of 22 percent.
The secretary was told that Rescue-1122 managed 1,176,457 medical emergencies in 2023, responded to 43,302 crime emergencies and 1,279 cases of drowning, 751 structural collapses, handled 12,238 animal rescue cases and 180,495 miscellaneous incidents. The meeting was told that last year 161,378 victims were provided patients transfer services and Motorbike Rescue Service responded to 632,446 emergencies in 2023.
Dr Rizwan said during the last 19 years, Rescue Service has emerged as a successful model of emergency services delivery for South Asian countries.
He directed them to ensure community building safety regulations in 50 feet and above buildings, establish Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) at village level and promote road safety to develop safer communities in the province.
