Traffic cop killed, another wounded in firing inside Landhi barracks

A traffic police constable was killed and another wounded in a firing incident in the police barracks in Landhi on Monday morning.

Police said the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Landhi police station. The deceased constable was identified as 30-year-old Faheemid Iqbal and the injured as Gul Sher, 35.

The body and the injured were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). The deceased constable belonged to the Traffic Section Shah Faisal District Korangi, while the injured traffic police constable is associated with the Traffic Section Korangi Industrial Area in District Korangi.

According to the Landhi police, the firing at the barracks occurred accidentally as Traffic DSP Javed's gunman Constable Ali Hassan reached the barracks to go on duty after he was provided a 9mm pistol and began changing his uniform while putting the pistol on a charpoy.

Meanwhile, Gul Sher, who was putting on shoes in the barracks, picked up the pistol and accidentally fired a shot while checking it, injuring himself in the chest. The bullet also passed through and hit Constable Iqbal, causing injuries to him as well.

Both the constables were initially taken to the Indus Hospital and later shifted to the JPMC where Iqbal succumbed to his injuries. All three traffic police constables shared the same barracks. Police had taken Constable Hassan into custody. Further investigations are under way.
