PESHAWAR: A higher number of women are readying for the coming general elections from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as 578 of them have filed nomination forms for a slot in the
national or provincial assembly from different districts of the province. The total number of candidates from across the province is 5,278.
As per the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), a total of 28626 candidates are in the run from across the country. As per the ECP, 1,283 male and 39 female candidates have filed
papers for the 45 general seats in the National Assembly from KP.
Besides, 3,349 men and 115 women have submitted nomination papers for 115 general seats in the KP assembly.As many as 97 candidates have filed papers for 10 reserved seats for women in NA while 321 women are in the run for a reserved seat in KP assembly.
For the four reserved seats for minorities in KP assembly, 68 male and six female candidates are flexing muscles. All the political parties have submitted their priority lists for the reserved seats for women and minorities in the National and Provincial Assemblies in the office of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
There are 10 seats reserved for women in NA from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Separately, there are 26 seats reserved for women and four for minorities in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly. Apart from senior politicians and former MNAs, many new faces are also among the main candidates for NA and KP assemblies.
